Paul HeneryAfter Kilimanjaro
until June 20.
Paul, born in Northumberland in 1963, lives and works in his native county as a painter and printmaker inspired by a passion for landscape and the natural world. Paul is also able to make a huge practical contribution to preserving the environment he loves as he is also the the Wildlife Crime Officer for Northumbria Police.
He has won many awards for his work, including British Bird's 'Bird Illustrator of the Year' 1998, Wildlife Magazine Art Award 2002 and the RSPB Fine Art Award 2004, and exhibits annually with the Society of Wildlife Artists of which he is a member.
Pauls work is about experiencing and depicting nature at first hand, so his wonderful sketchbooks form an important part of his work. He develops more complex watercolours, prints and monotypes in the studio where he can relish the qualities of the artistic process. He uses medium and composition to distill a feeling of location thereby making a sense of habitat as well as wildlife an integral part of the artwork. Paul often uses collage and handmade paper to intensify the result.
A recent trip to Kilimanjaro prompted Paul to make a series of paintings and prints of African landscape and wildlife
