Kyla CresswellKyla is a printmaker from New Zealand. "I started prinmaking in High School, around the same time I started learning Japanese. Years later, these interests became the impetus for my leaving New Zealand in 1999 to spend two years living in lush, sub-tropical Nagasaki-ken, where I taught English. Japan, with its rich prinmaking history seemed a perfect choice. During that time I was delighted by the finely manicured gardens in places ranging from my local neighbourhood or mountain temple gardens, to the centre of built up Tokyo. Often drawn towards using trees in my prints, there is nothing like the form of a tree, grown familiar over time, to bring in me a sense of belonging, no matter how far from home I may be." |
