LONDON CALLING

A collaborative exhibition with Advanced Graphics London whose silkscreens we have exhibited for over a decade.  Advanced Graphics have worked with many artists for over forty years, either co-publishing or commissioned by galleries and publishers to produce prints.  Advanced produced their first own publication in 1980 and in 1988 a woodblock press was installed at the studio and the development of wood-blocking techniques combined with heavily screen-printed layers have become a trademark of their prints.  The exhibition will feature a few of the artists who have worked with Advanced Graphics: Craigie Aitchison, Basil Beattie, Fred Cuming, Albert Irvin, Anita Klein and Ray Richardson will be showing how each artist works with the print technicians in a different way.  It becomes a relationship that is crucial to the success of each visit to the studio.

Showing a selected mix of some of the artists who currently work with Advanced Graphics allows an overview of the outcome of this unique creative relationship and process, many artists coming back to other mediums with a different outlook to their work.

Initiated by Northern Print in partnership with culture10, Northern Print Biennale is the first major competition and exhibition of contemporary printmaking in the UK for almost 20 years. Newcastle Gateshead will celebrate contemporary and historical printmaking through a broad programme of exhibitions and events from 26th June to 4th October 2009.
